Catching up

 I've had a nice few days with Mark staying here. He's well over his monthly contracted hours so has taken time off in leiu. It's great having him here as he's a good help around the house, vacuuming, helping OH cook, loading the dishwasher etc. He's a perfectionist so everything is done really well.

Daughter has almost finished granddaughter's room. OH put the wardrobe and desk together for her when he stayed there and she's put the curtain up. They are just waiting for the bed now and it's finished. She's sent me some photos and it all looks lovely. 

Had a message this week from an old friend I haven't seen for years. I went to her mother's funeral about 7 years ago. I think that was the last time I heard from her! Her mum was a lovely, kind lady who was always kind to my family when we were young. TBH I'm not that keen on rekindling the friendship as she's one of life's users - the sort that needs loads of favours doing but won't help you in any way. I did feel sorry for her though as she's in a sheltered housing project and says she can't walk far. Trouble is, and I hate to say it, I doubt that she's anything near as disabled as she says she is. I've known her for many years and she's always played the system. I may stand corrected if I actually visit her, but ATM  I'm happy to just keep it to FB messages. The conversation gradually leaned towards  how she would love to see the sea, how far do we live from the sea, do we have a sea view etc. I'm pretty sure it was a hint lol.  She lives an hour and a half away from where we live so that suits me fine for now. 

Our Dog Lola

Our dog seems to have recovered well but I need to book a vet appointment for a check up on the anal gland that blocked TMI sorry lol. I'm really hoping it's all normal now as they said it will be a biopsy with sedation if it doesn't clear. It all looks normal but I wasn't even sure there was definitely anything wrong when I first took her to the vet. She's the sort of dog that is very active, playing ball in the park, eating well and acting almost completely normal with a temperature, blocked gland and a big ruptured absess! Perhaps it's a spaniel trait - nothing gets them down lol. Nothing like me and OH as we both take to our bed or the sofa if we're ill.

    That friend sounds like one you'd rather not have! Good to read that Lola's recovered well. Our Betty has trouble with emptying her anal glands, the last time she did it on my bed! (fortunately I always have thick fleece blankets on top of the bed, as she sheds so much hair). We have to take her to the vet a couple of times a year to have her glands emptied.....he did say we could do it ourselves.....erm, no thanks, it's one of the worst smells on earth!

    Yes that friend is definitely not one I want close contact with again. She's a user and I don't have time for those sort of people
    Our last dog had anal gland problems so I do know what you mean about the smell lol

Busy times and what a Bargain

Ready for family visiting   Went back to my friend's home last week and OH sorted out the base for the greenhouse. He used to work as a buildings manager/builder so knew how to do it properly. Will probably go again in a few weeks when all visiting family leave. ATM we have son here for a fortnight and daughter, granddaughter and eldest son coming for next weekend! Quite a houseful really. I went to a car boot sale last weekend and bought 2 brand new, sealed in packet Dorma duvet covers and matching pillow cases. Can't believe the price only £13 for all of it. Has to be my bargain of the year. Also bought a pretty M&S top for me for £1 and a small football game table for the grandchildren.  OH bought a concrete Dragon garden ornament, another plant and a plant pot.  We also drove to Dawlish last week as they had an event on the lawns there with music and various drink and food stalls. A Day in Dartmouth

 We decided to go to Dartmouth today as I'd read an article online saying how nice it was, and how it resembled Greece. Mark came with us as he's not going home until this evening. I have been to Corfu and Kos but not mainland Greece yet. It was quite a long drive from where we live - over an hour- but well worth it. The harbour is very pretty with all the boats, and there is a lovely little park with a fountain. Numerous benches are everywhere along the water's edge and in the park, so it's nice to sit and enjoy the view. There's some big brand shops close by in the shopping area eg Cotton Traders, Sea Salt, Mountain Warehouse etc and also several Art Shops selling paintings mainly of sea scenes. I also saw 2 book shops selling second hand books, so book lovers well catered for there.There are a few charity shops but they seemed quite small, and mainly stock bone china (think Royal Doltone, Wedgewood) ornaments, and kitchen items. It's arrived!

 I spent yesterday catching up on the washing and washed the floor ready for the sofa delivery. It was very empty in here with the only armchair left put in the conservatory, along with everything else OH had dumped in there. Manage to do a few rows of knitting, at least I've started it now after several months of it being in the cupboard.  Sofa and chair arrived this afternoon so spent an hour helping OH unpack and deciding how to arrange it. It's a bit larger than our old suite and reclines, so needs to be away from the wall quite a bit. A lot firmer too as the old one's springs were giving way. Excuse the orchids OH thinks we live in a florists lol It does look quite nice I must admit but it's much more tidy than usual! Trying to keep the dogs off will be a work of art. We do have velour blankets to put on which should protect it for a while. OH has insisted on keeping his old  rickety, scratched table for now. I suppose it gives it a homely look lol.
