Visiters Dentist and a Castle House

 We had son Mark pop in for a couple of days last week, and then travelled back to South Gloucestershire for my dental appointment on Sunday. I think Mark would like to live in this area if there was a job for him. Unfortunately, wages are quite low here and there's not much work around. 

We stayed with our daughter on Sunday evening ready for the dentist Monday lunchtime. At 9.30am Monday I had a phone call cancelling my appointment for 12.30! I really wish I could get an NHS dentist in Devon as 100 miles is a long way to travel especially when they cancelled at short notice. We always travel the day before as the M5 is often very congested especially if there's an accident. They have re-booked for 3 weeks time. It's not the first time it's happened either. I've had several cancelled appointments over the last few years. I suppose I should think I'm lucky really to still have an NHS dentist as many people don't have one. We all went for curry at a local restaurant Monday evening, before driving back on Tuesday.

Luscombe Castle
Today, we went to a charity open day at Luscombe Castle in Dawlish. It's a huge house built to look like a castle, and they open the grounds to the public once a year usually. It's set in huge grounds of 350 acres. There was a band playing, coffee and tea, pizza, and some stalls selling slate pictures, macrame plant pot holders, sausage shaped draft excluders, etc. Weather was sunny but a cold wind was blowing so I had a light jacket with me. Only £5 to get in which included coffee and biscuits. Nice way to spend a couple of hours for a good cause. The elderly owner still lives there in the castle.

It's all systems go again this Bank Holiday weekend as Mark, our daughter and granddaughter are invading us again on Sunday. Daughter is a teacher so has next week off but Mark only has 2 days again.

Recovering.....

 Have been quite ill this week which was unfortunate as we had both sons staying here. It started with bad stomach pain last weekend so I rang the GP Monday morning. 3 hours later the Dr saw me did blood tests etc and sent me home with antibiotics. Late afternoon he rang again and sent me to hospital! I was so shocked but apparently I needed IV medication. Had 5 ECGs maybe 6 I lost count, probably due to the shock of being sent to hospital lol Weight, more blood, urine tests, and what I think was a dementa test lol. Do you know where you are, what year is it, date of birth, say the months of the year backwards starting with December!!!!!!!! Pleased to say I passed. Off for a chest x-ray, hooked up on a drip all in one hour of arrival. Husband said it's restored his faith in the NHS. It is definately nothing like you see on the news condemming the poor service to patients. That's Christmas Done!

 It was a bit chaotic here at Christmas as son, daughter and granddaughter all arrived. I did go to the pub Xmas Eve which was nice. They had a guitarist singing some old song like 'My old man's a dustman' which took me back to when I used to take my mum out Xmas Eve. She used to love the Salvation army band playing in the streets. Now I'm not religious at all but have every respect for the Salvation Army as they have an excellent brass band. They always turned up at our home with presents and food for mum and my siblings when I was young.  Also, they were the only people to get my late brother off of drugs permanently, and several other agencies had tried for years, including all the drug workers from various agencies, including social services They also found him accommodation as he was homeless at the time.                  The Demon cars              My kitchen worktop! Babysitting and Dr Who's kitchen!

 Travelled back to our hometown yesterday and called in to see our eldest son. He's renovating his dining room and it's starting to look very good. Son always strips everything back when decorating, ie new patio doors, walls plastered, new flooring, new skirting board etc. He's definitely a perfectionist. We met DGD on the way to daughter's home riding her bike home from school. DD and her colleagues all meet up in a local pub with their children every Friday, so we spent an hour there before going to DDs home. Its really nice that they are all friends as well as colleagues. Today, Saturday, OH put up a shelf in DGDs bedroom, and then we spent the day visiting relatives. Managed to catch 2 nieces, 2 sisters, sister's boyfriend, and our Brother-in-law. Haven't seen him for months, as he's been staying on and off with his mum and sister since my sister died last year.
