Meal out and Travel Problems
Well we weren't alone for long - 2 days later Nephew arrived followed by son for the weekend. They both love it here. Everyone went home after the weekend so we had a weeks break. Then on OHs birthday both our sons, daughter and one granddaughter turned up for the day. We all went out to Teignmouth as there were music bands playing in the street for Pride Day. Later we had a birthday meal at an Indian restaurant. We used to go to this restaurant a couple of years ago when it was a steak house, as it served top quality steak at a reasonable price. Well, reasonable for Devon prices, which has almost always been more expensive than South Gloucestershire where we moved from. It was a family day visit and they all went home after the meal.
Daughter is having a lot of problems with granddaughter at her new secondary school. She absolutely loves the lessons when she gets there but getting there and back home is causing major problems. So far she's fell off of her bike twice, missed the bus, tried to catch the bus from the opposite side of the road (good job daughter was there hiding around the corner to check) and ended up locked out of the school! I answered the phone at 8.55am one day last week to a distressed granddaughter asking me to ring her mum's work as the school gate was locked and she couldn't get in! She had missed the early bus. Her mum isn't permitted phone use at work. Granddaughter said there was a high fence but she thought she could climb it!!! Thankfully, I told her to go to reception and she knew where that was. Rang the school and they were very supportive, and were even going to go outside to find her, but she arrived at reception while I was still on the phone tg. She's only just turned 11 and not very mature for her age. She's not the only one in year 7 having problems either. One child caught the wrong bus home and ended up lost miles from their home. A lady with a child at the same school recognised their uniform and contacted parents via Facebook as child didn't know their phone numbers. I think the main problem is children don't go out on busses and are always taken everywhere by car these days so they don't develop skills in travelling alone. We walked to school from day one when I was young, and caught busses to get around, as not every family had a car.
OH is off to bowling today so time to get busy with the housework. I've just got OH to get my winter clothing down from the loft as summer is definitely over here. It was 7C last night and today will be 16C. Time to get the jumpers out.
Bye for now All the best
