A Day in Dartmouth
We decided to go to Dartmouth today as I'd read an article online saying how nice it was, and how it resembled Greece. Mark came with us as he's not going home until this evening. I have been to Corfu and Kos but not mainland Greece yet. It was quite a long drive from where we live - over an hour- but well worth it. The harbour is very pretty with all the boats, and there is a lovely little park with a fountain. Numerous benches are everywhere along the water's edge and in the park, so it's nice to sit and enjoy the view. There's some big brand shops close by in the shopping area eg Cotton Traders, Sea Salt, Mountain Warehouse etc and also several Art Shops selling paintings mainly of sea scenes. I also saw 2 book shops selling second hand books, so book lovers well catered for there. There are a few charity shops but they seemed quite small, and mainly stock bone china (think Royal Doltone, Wedgewood) ornaments, and kitchen items. Some clothing and footwear was on display but quite a small amount compared to other charity shops. Parking was a surprise as it was free for 2 hours by the park, with lots of space. We stopped for a drink in a local pub before taking the car ferry across the river. That was quite expensive for around a 5 minute trip at £8 one way. We saw the local steam train while we were on the ferry.
Food in the cafés seemed expensive at £3 for a sausage roll take away, or £9.99 for pasty and chips eat in. When we go again I think we will take a picnic lunch. OH bought a coloured glass hanging ball and some shell ornaments but I didn't see anything I really wanted.
Housework day tomorrow as I haven't done any cleaning this week!!
