Politics and Bills

 Had a really nice meal last night at the Indian Restaurant. Son is helping OH cook cottage pie atm for tonight's dinner. He's all packed up and leaving after. Today I'm having a lazy day, sat in a warm tracksuit and not doing anything much. I've managed to pack up 3 parcels I've sold on EB, labels printed ready to send tomorrow. Messaged daughter and chatted with her. She's asking when we're coming to visit again - umm not yet. I think we definitely need a week on our own at least. It's been non stop family visiting since before Xmas. Tomorrow I'm doing some much needed housework and decluttering, then we're off to visit my friend for the afternoon. Haven't seen her since before Christmas so will be great to catch up.

Watched the inauguration of Donald Trump on TV, the new American president. I'm pretty neutral about him to be honest, but some of his policies seem good, like getting rid of drug gangs, bringing down the cost of living, securing borders and working towards ending wars in Ukraine and Palestinian. Hope he's successful with all that. 

Our PM Starmer isn't great here imo, as lots of pensioners have barely enough to live on and are just above the level of income to claim the winter fuel allowance. Thankfully we aren't affected as we have a small amount of  savings so can afford the bills at present. He's also put up Uni fees for young people and upset the farmers with inheritance tax. Not very popular here at all with most people I know.

Did some online banking and sorted out the bills this evening. In January we're always overspent as Xmas expenses and family staying over takes its toll. It's usually back on track by mid February, so all ok. OH and I have separate personal accounts and a joint account we both pay into each month for all the bills, shopping and household expenses. Tried one joint account for everything with OH years ago but he has no idea of budgeting so that didn't work out at all well. Since we retired I've sorted out all the bills, direct debits, insurances etc in the joint account which is working well.

    Non-stop visitors must be very wearing, no wonder you'd like a few days to yourselves!

    It's lovely to have family visiting but sometimes it does get a bit overwhelming like at Xmas and in the summer holidays. We will never be lonely here lol Thanks for your comment x

An Update

 Well I went to the market in town which was lovely to look around. OH had a stall with others promoting the U3A. This is a club for people who are retired and over 50. OH has been playing Badminton, Bouls, Shooting at targets, visiting various Mansion houses and Gardens like the brochure and playing Chess. It did rain on and off but he was under the big tent there. I looked around but didn't buy anything as prices were high eg £5 for a pancake! The cleaning routine has been put on hold this week as,  apart from stripping the bed and doing 2 loads of washing I've been in quite a lot of pain from the tooth extraction so decided to rest. Feeling better today so hopefully it will continue healing now. Son did the vacuuming for me which was a big help. Managed to sell some china and clothes on ebay and send it all but thats about it.                                          ...

Busy times and what a Bargain

Ready for family visiting   Went back to my friend's home last week and OH sorted out the base for the greenhouse. He used to work as a buildings manager/builder so knew how to do it properly. Will probably go again in a few weeks when all visiting family leave. ATM we have son here for a fortnight and daughter, granddaughter and eldest son coming for next weekend! Quite a houseful really. I went to a car boot sale last weekend and bought 2 brand new, sealed in packet Dorma duvet covers and matching pillow cases. Can't believe the price only £13 for all of it. Has to be my bargain of the year. Also bought a pretty M&S top for me for £1 and a small football game table for the grandchildren.  OH bought a concrete Dragon garden ornament, another plant and a plant pot.  We also drove to Dawlish last week as they had an event on the lawns there with music and various drink and food stalls. The Dog Show

          1st Prize for the Waggiest Tail We decided to enter the dogs in the Dawlish Carnival Dog Show just for fun. Ava, our granddaughter, and our daughter were staying with us so Ava was delighted to take one of the dogs in the ring. She was closely followed by OH holding our other dog. Molly won the waggiest tail, coming first and was rewarded with a rosette and cone of dog biscuits. Her tail does wag constantly and at least twice the speed of other dogs lol. Nice afternoon there and thankfully the weather stayed dry for the day. Ava had a go on the bouncy castle and Mark won her a soft toy penguin on the rifle range. Managed to get the washing dry on the line today as tomorrow's forecast is heavy rain and thunder storms. It really seems like Autumn rather than August atm. The Carnival parade is tomorrow but we won't be going to that due to the weather. Bye for now All the best x
